Bands To Check Out In 2013
In the coming weeks, AbsolutePunk.net will be revealing its Absolute100 feature - in which we reveal the hundred or so bands we believe you should start paying attention to. I thought I'd give Buzznet a little peak into a few of my choices for this year as well as last - giving you something new to chew on if you don't want another helping of Fall Out Boy or All Time Low tonight.
The first artist I've gonna talk about is a musician I am super stoked about in 2013. Her name is Allison Weiss. You may have heard of her because she is touring with emerging Buzznet favorites Candy Hearts. Her debut full-length album, Say What You Mean, releases on April 16th via No Sleep Records and it's an absolute must-own. Those who know me know that I am a diehard Tegan and Sara fan, so this is totally up the alley for those who love the Quin sisters' luscious tunes. Weiss' vocals are raw and emotional - every song on her new album is personal and will definitely reach out to most of you.
Second on my list is Alcoa - it is the solo project from Derek Archambault. While Derek is better known for his work in the progressive hardcore band, Defeater, he's been working on Alcoa for an even longer period of time and it's finally seeing the light of day via Bridge Nine Records, who is releasing his debut LP, Bone and Marrow, tomorrow. Alcoa still delivers the intenstiy and passion from Derek's work in Defeater, but it also focuses on the acoustic stylings of Ryan Adams, Rocky Votolato, and City and Colour to some extent. This could be your diamond-in-the-rough band for 2013.
Slingshot Dakota was a breakthrough band for me in 2012. loved their latest album Dark Hearts and I think this is something Buzznetters would love, especially if you adore Matt and Kim. Slingshot Dakota is a two-piece band featuring real life sweethearts Carly Comando (on keys and vocals) and Tom Patterson (drums). Their last album released via Topshelf Records last November and it is definitely worth checking out.
That's all I have for you today. Check these artists out though, your favorite band may only be a click away.
